چکیده

Abstract Background Matteuccia struthiopteris (L.) Todaro is a popular edible wild fern found in the subtropical Himalayas. It widely used folk medicine to treat several ailments and known for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral antidiabetic activities. Due multidimensional nutritional, pharmacological therapeutic effects, it well recognized Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia. Main body of abstract The present review aims provide updated information on botany, phytochemistry, effects toxicity methods, addition highlight potential future exploration. Particular emphasis also given antioxidant health promotion. In-depth literature was probed by examining numerous sources via online databases (research reviews), texts, Web sites thesis. Plant biotechnology approaches such as tissue culture micropropagation are discussed. Short conclusion useful treatment different diseases microbial infection, viral infection diabetes weight reduction effective free radical scavenger. Nevertheless, advance studies required offer mechanistic role crude extracts bio-actives even discover structure–function relationship active principles.

Chloroplast Division in the Gametophyte of the Fern Matteuccia Struthiopteris (l.) Todaro

The mechanism by which fully developed chloroplasts divide has been reported to consist of an initial constriction around the entire chloroplast, which is followed by a p inching into two daugh te r chloroplasts. Constr ict ion is accompanied by fusion of the inner and outer layers of the chloroplast membrane . Such a division has been documented by electron microscopy for the brown alga, Fucus...

Differential Response in the Water Status of Immature and Mature Fronds of the Ostrich Fern (Matteuccia struthiopteris [L.] Todaro) to a Mild Water Stress.

Experiments were conducted in growth chambers to examine the effect of a mild water stress (-200 kilopascals polyethylene glycol) on frond elongation and water status of the ostrich fern (Matteuccia struthiopteris [L.] Todaro). Measurements were taken for two days, starting one day after the application of polyethylene glycol. Total water potential in control (well-watered) plants was always si...

Biologic effects of plant toxins and aflatoxins in rats.

After weaning, groups of rats were fed a semi-purified diet containing fiddlehead greens (the unfuried frond of the ostrich fern Matteuccia struthiopteris), mature bracken fern (Pteridium aquilinum), or cycad meal (Cycas circinalis), or this diet plus aflatoxin B1. The groups fed 1-10% fiddlehead greens for 70-73 weeks developed no tumors, whereas those fed mature bracken fern for 67 weeks deve...

Dolichols of the fern Matteucia struthiopteris.

Dolichols isolated from leaves of the fern Matteucia struthiopteris were present as a mixture of prenologues composed of 14 up to 20 isoprene units with Dol-16 dominating. They comprised approximately 0.004% of the fresh weight of fresh plant tissue and were accompanied by traces of polyprenols (Pren-14 up to Pren-17, Pren-16 dominating). Their structure was confirmed by electropray ionization ...

Biochemistry of fern spore germination: protease activity in ostrich fern spores.

Protease activities were detected in quiescent and germinating spores of the ostrich fern (Matteuccia struthiopteris [L.] Todaro). Peak endopeptidase, aminopeptidase, and carboxypeptidase activities were detected 12 to 24 hours after spores began imbibing under light. There was a correlation between activities of proteases, the onset of a decline in levels of soluble protein, and an increase in...
